It's really exciting that a KAL is organised for sock knitters down under - here in Australia! Of course, I cannot resist joining it, so I will be knitting along this summer with all my fellow Australians sock knitters in the Southern Summer of Socks KAL - hooray!
So for the last few days, I have been doing a lot of thinking & researching so that I will be ready on October 1 to cast on my 1st pair of socks. I have put together a list of challenges that I will aim to achieve during this 6-month KAL :
- Fair Isle Socks - Snowflakes Socks (IK, Spring 07)
- One of the popular designs in Fav Socks - Embossed Leaves Socks
- One of the designs from Cat Bordhi's new book
- One of the designs from a Nancy Bush's book
- My favorite design & yarn from Pick Up Sticks Sock Club - Twin Braids
- My own design
I have tried to include new areas of sock knitting in this list so that it will help to broaden my sock knitting experience. So for the next few days, I will not be casting on any socks & just concentrate on knitting my Alpine Shawl but I have been busy going through my stash and matching the yarn and patterns - I am ready for OCTOBER 1 !

Can't wait to see all your beautiful socks!
Good for you for all your planning. I can't wait to see your summer socks!
Oh, what a lot of exciting goals, thanks for the Firestarter link too!! Are we all meant to have goals?? I'm not very goal oriented!!! I am just hoping to knit a lot of socks!!!
How fun does that sound....enjoy!
This KAL sounds like such a lot of fun - and I can't wait to see all the socks you're going to knit for it! Happy summer-sock-knitting!
Your going to have a ball knitting all those socks. Such a variety of patterns and techniques. You'll be a master sock knitter by the time you have finished all those different construction methods. You are also going to have some very happy feet. Good luck!
I'm curious to see what you think of Cat's book, it is like nothing I have ever read. I look forward to seeing your Alpine lace shawl.
