Start of SSS

Knitting in the car as we headed towards Yallingup, south of Perth for a much needed holiday - this is the start of my 1st sock (posing with Pinky Tiger) for the Southern Summer of Socks KAL - it's my own design & I really like the look of it - it's a mix of garter rib & mini mock cables knitted in Cherry Tree Hill Sockittomme - I am not really crazy about this yarn as it's quite elastic & splitty.

It was lovely at Smiths Beach Resort where we stayed for 4 nights as the villa was right in front of the ocean, little blue wrens were flying all over the trees & kangaroos came out to play at dusk - just so peaceful that I could stay there forever....
.... this is the view as I sat on the balcony of the villa, knitting away ....

..... almost casting off my 1st sock which I have named Dots & Crosses Sock as the garter stitch looks like little dots & the mock cable (actually a right twist) looks like a cross - my very own design!

Of course, I could not wait to cast off my D&C sock & so I cast on another (as I was dying to try a new technique) - it's the Jeweled Step Socks from Cat Bordhi's book - it's a really interesting sock to knit & I am using Dream In Color yarn which is so soft & gorgeous to knit with - look at the Whirlpool Toe ...

It's an interesting method of knitting a toe & that's when you need the alphabet stitch markers as the increases are not in the usual places & therefore will be hard to do if you don't have the alphabet markers. As I knit along on this sock, I am not so sure if I will bother to knit another pair like this as it involves too much technicalities, like shifting stitches around & placing markers in different places - it's too much work & I will never remember all these so will not be able to just knit & not have to check the pattern all the time. Anyway, have another look at my 2 socks in progress & the beautiful surroundings ...

I did managed to cast off my Dots & Crosses on the drive home ....

What gorgeous vacation pictures!!! Plus some sock knitting, life doesn't get much better. I was wondering where you got your dots & crosses pattern and it is your design, very pretty! I appreciate the info about the whirlpool toe, it turned out so nicely, better than my toe up attempts.
