2nd FO for 2008 !

15 days into the new year & I cast off another pair of socks - Crazy Monkey Socks - a toe-up version of the Monkey with no purl stitches ....

I love this pattern - it's easy & yet turn out so lovely & it also knitted up very fast as there are no purl stitches - really love it - a great sock pattern ......

Pattern : Crazy Monkeys

Yarn : A wool blend from Jolly Jumbuck (was testing the yarn for Irene so not sure of the colorway - visit her store & check with her)
Needles : Lantern Moon 2.25mm sox stiks (I love these little needles)

I have also finish 1 sock which I casted on in November. As I was anxious to try the yarn (Zen Garden) I cast on without deciding on a pattern & finished the foot & took a while to decide on the pattern for the leg - finally decided on keeping the pattern simple & just a braided cable with garter beads (from Sensational Knitted Socks) on both sides of the legs - turned out well .....

The yarn is gorgeous to knit with - so soft & smooth but I was a little disappointed with the pooling on the heel but I think it still looks great ....

The only feature in this sock that I am not so happy with is the cast off. Because of the design, I decided not to knit a ribbed cuff & just leave it as it is - but I feel that it's not a really proper cast off - what do you think?

In my last post where I listed my FOs for 2007, I forgot this - 16 dish cloths in a month - all in time for Christmas give-aways! Wow, how can I forget this !

16 dishcloths?? You are really dedicated!!! Beautiful socks as usual. I see what you mean about the pooling: it is a 'sock'-upational hazard I think. An I do agree about cuffs, I like ribbed cuffs, I think that's what socks should have. In my mind that is what they should look like and sometimes the lacy or picot edgings just don;t look as I imagine they should. I think Purl-less Monkeys are my next sock!!!

Absolutely sensational! Especially the Zen Garden yarn. And I like the pooling. My goodness they are all gorgeous.

Those are both lovely socks. I've done Monkeys before but I'll have to try this one without the purls...looks nice. The cast off on the other looks great. It probably just looks so different to you. Wear them a couple of times and you won't even think about it again!

I think the CO looks just fine. So long as the socks stay up, I don't think it's a problem. Sometimes we have to make mods. Regardless, all the socks are lovely.

And 16 dishcloths in a month??? Yes, how could you forget? lol

the monkeys are lovely ... as for the cast off... I don't know why, but without the ribbing, it just doesn't feel complete to me either.

I wish I'd known about purl-less monkeys before I started mine! Yours look great. I like the Zen Garden yarn too. I don't mind the cast off on yours, although generally I do like ribbing at the top of the sock.

Your Crazy Monkey socks are an incredible combination of yarn and patterning. I like your Zen Garden sock without the ribbing, the cabling gives the edge a lot of support as it is not curling. I also worry that some ribbing at the top might take away from the pretty cabling.
