Charity Knitting

It was a cold & wet July 9 morning but the weather did not stop me & Lydia from the Anglicare Knit In at the Government House. Who can resist spending the day knitting with fellow knitters ....
This is the 5th year for Anglicare who organise this event where knitters knit squares for blankets. These blankets are distributed to many deserving homes across Western Australia. This is the 3rd year that I am attending this event & the 2nd year for Lydia. In 2007, the event was organised during a school day & Lydia could not attend. But she continued knitting her squares throughout the year & she brought these along on Wednesday .....

...... her contribution of 57 squares & she managed to knit another 2 squares while she was there. I only managed to knit 1 square ......

.... but brought home half a square to finish off. I was having too much fun wandering around taking pictures ....

..... these are knitters from our knitting circles - there were 16 of us & I am sure everyone had a great day - knitting, chatting, having tea & muffins & even sandwiches for lunch. Not only were we fed but also entertained with singers, poets, tap dancers, comedians & a pianist.

There was also a group of knitters with red hats .....
Last but not least, this group of dedicated ladies who sew all the squares together ....
I am already looking forward to next year's event & Lydia is back to knitting her squares !

Wow, what a great cause, and a great way to spend the day too - with fellow knitters, what could be better :-)

What a great opportunity. you get to meet loads of likeminded people and help charity. Perfect. I wonder why NZ doesn't do something similar
