Off On The Right Foot ....

.... that's the name of the color of the Tofutsies socks that I just cast off - the Tidal Wave socks (a free pattern from SWTC). I am becoming fond of this yarn as it knits so nicely with 2.25mm dpns & the socks turned out so soft but these socks are not for me - I knitted them for a member of my knitting group who doesn't like knitting socks as she finds 5 dpns too fiddlely, so I offered to knit them - socks are fun to knit & I can knit them all day long !
I did made some changes to the pattern - knit them toe-up using Wendy's new Fingeringweight Toe-Up Gusset Heel pattern - use Method 2 for the toe & slip stitch gusset & heel - I really love the effect ....
.... the fit is so good & the slip stitch heel is so pretty - I think this will be the way I knit my gusset & heel from now.

I have also cast on another new project - it's the Elbac from Knitty Winter 2006 - it's a cable scarf which is completely reversible, having a front side and a back side which are identical - I fell in love with the pattern when I saw it on Random Knits. I just have to knit this scarf as I love cables which always don't turn out well on scarf as the wrong side doesn't look good - so Elbac is the solution.

Another reason is that I wanted to knit a present for my daughter's sponsor for her Confirmation ceremony in August. As Lydia's god-parents are living in Singapore, it was not possible for them to fly over here for the ceremony so I asked a church friend (Lesley) to be her sponsor. I noticed that Lesley loves wearing scarf so Elbac will be the PRESENT & so here's the start of Elbac ....

I am knitting Elbac in Rowan's Calmer (a cotton & microfibre mix) which I have in my stash - it's knitting up really nicely with the unusual shaping & I am enjoying the cables as I have just learned to do cables without a cable needle - thanks to a member of my knitting group who showed me the technique. I am having such a nice time knitting this scarf for the last 2 days that I have neglected my Alpine Lace.

The scarf is looking lovely. I know how to cable without a needle, but I need the safety net of a cable needle: I feel so insecure!! What great socks!! The construction is wonderful!!!

Really pretty socks! I love the Tofutsies, too. I also recently knitted a pair for a friend who is in my knitting group. She, in return, has been giving my vegetables from her garden. I think I have the better end of that deal!
I love that scarf! I just bookmarked it.
Thanks for sharing.

What gorgeous socks!!! That heel is superb, I am so intrigued, I have never done a gusset from the toe up. The socks look like they have lots of nice drape, too. I am amazed with Elbac in Calmer, is there nothing that yarn can't make? A beautiful scarf in a stunning color.
