5 Long Months .....

.... but I did cast off the Waving Lace Socks which have been on the needles since March. This is the 1st time that I took so long to knit a pair of socks but things were not right from the beginning -
  1. I didn't like the yarn, Fleece Artist Merino, which was a little hard on the fingers but the colors are gorgeous (Amethyst)
  2. The 1st pattern that I chose was not going right as there were big holes after each cable & I just could not do anything to avoid that
  3. The 2nd pattern did not start out right as the YO (in the 2nd half of the pattern) made after a purl st looks bigger than the other YO (after a knit st), so I had to experiment & try a few techniques - finally was happy with not making a YO but picking up the horizontal st on the next row
  4. The needles size was not right & the sts look loose & so had to go down a size to 2.25mm & then broke 1 dpn & had to wait a while for a new set

Anyway, I am glad that's all in the past & the socks are done - they look alright & fitted perfectly but not as soft as the other socks that I have made. Here they are ......

It's a lovely pair of socks & I will wear them as I do like the Waving Lace pattern & they do look good on my feet....

Shame the yarn is a bit hard on your hands, because it does look lovely! Great socks!

Your socks are beautiful!!! I appreciate the history in their making as I have been through similar episodes myself. It is well worth the effort, they are such pretty socks!

I love Fleece Artist Merino! I love purple! I love Waving Lace Socks! Therefore, I love your socks! I used that same method with the YO's, and I think I finally have to bite the bullet and get some 2.25 mm needles (I always consistently got 9 spi with 2.5 mm, but now I guess I knit more loosely and for some reason I am stuck on having the 9 spi, or at least being able to get 9 spi when I want it).

gorgeous Ann! I have these on the needles at the moment too - in Lorna's Laces in the Vera colourway. They're a gift, and it's frustrating to not be able to share them on my blog - lol!

Thanks for your comment -- one hint on the sock blockers, don't make them as big as I did (pretty much to measurements of foot and leg), make them significantly smaller.

Have you washed them yet? They might soften up.

Ann, that stitch pattern on my blog that you asked about is actually called Stansfield 196.

Oh, I *adore* these socks! Beautiful pattern, and the color of the yarn is just so gorgeous! I'm sorry that the pattern gave you some headaches, butg in the end it was certainly worth all the hassles! Great job!
