The Greatest Idea Ever !

I am sure many knitters have this problem ....

.... can you see the light blue mark on my index finger? I have the yarn around my finger to control my tension & as I knit quite tightly, the yarn makes a mark around my finger. This time, the mark is blue as the color of the yarn stains it. If I knit for a couple of hours, the mark will be very pronounced & I will be walking around for the rest of the day with that mark around my finger. This has disturbed me for a while & I have been thinking of a solution - maybe I should wear a band aid when I am knitting but it will be quite wasteful as I need a new band aid everything I pick up my knitting. Or maybe a thimble but it will not fit the bottom of my index finger.

During the weekend, I happened to mention this problem to Lynette & she came up with a brain wave - a knitted ring. A couple of months ago, Lynette had asked me to knit her a ring as she wanted to decorate & wear it. I did. So I tried on Lynette's ring but it didn't fit my finger, so I knitted one ....

..... now I am knitting away happily with this ring & there is no mark on my finger. What a great idea - thanks to Lynette - if only she applies this level of thinking to her Economics!

If any of you are interested in making one of these rings - it's easy. I use sock yarn & my gauge is 9 sts per in & I measure around my finger (not too tightly) - cast on 20 sts using 2.5mm dpns, join the round & knit till the required height, cast off. That's it - a knitted ring. I am so happy with this that I am knitting more in different colors. This ring not only solve my problem but it will be fashionable to wear (just in case I forget to take it off). I LOVE IT !

I don't even knit tightly and I want one. I am sure I have plenty of stash to make them. Even have a few neice's that might like one. Great idea!! Thanks for sharing.

that's extraordinarily clever. What a great idea! I've had some yarns do just that and the staining bugs me! It would also be good for when I get a bit of a rub there if I've done too much.

Very neat idea. The yarn doesn't even touch that part of my finger! I'm glad it works for you :-)

How very cool! You have not only solved a problem for knitters everywhere, you designed a great piece of jewelry! Genius!

YOU are a clever knitter!! I love this idea. I sometimes poke a hole in my finger with my sharp Knit Picks needles. Then I proceed to get the needle in that hole over and over...it hurts. I end up going through a ton of Band-Aids while it heals,I'm not sure this will be strong enough to fight off my pointy tips, but I am going to try it!
