My Surprise Project Done!

In my last post, I mentioned that I was playing around with a small project & surprise, surprise - it became finished project .....

It's a Baby Kimono from Interweave Knits Summer 2005 - I found this cute little kimono while I was going thro' my books & mags for inspiration & decided to give this a try - I don't have the right yarn, so decided to use Opal Sock Yarn which is also 4ply but I could not get the right gauge & had to use a 3.5mm circular - anyway, everything was not quite right with this pattern but I just carry on knitting as it was quite relaxing to knit in garter stitch & in 1 piece - just start from the bottom, separate for back & sides, cast on for sleeves & 3-needle bind off for the shoulders. The only seaming was the sleeves which was little. I think I fell for this project as it's knitted in 1 piece in garter stitch - knitting all the way! As it's a kimono, the pattern had ribbons sewn on as ties but I have not decided what to do yet so just use 1 of my locking markers to keep it in place.

I am quite happy that I did finish it & it turned out looking good with the stripes & colors & it was done in 10 days -an easy & relaxing knit - I think this will fit my neighbor's 6 month old granddaughter.

I have also finish 1 of my Waving Lace socks .......

This is knitted in Fleece Artist Merino in Amethyst with 2.25mm rosewood needles. I did had a problem with this pattern as I didn't like the way the yarn over looked. One of the yarn over was before a purl stitch & therefore I had to go a full round on the needle & thus creating a bigger "hole" than the other yarn over before a knit stitch. Thank goodness, I posted my problem in Favorite Socks KAL & was directed to this site for a solution. It works & now the "holes" created by the yarn overs are of equal size & I am satisfied!

As I am knitting this sock from the toe-up (which is not in the pattern), I had to reverse the pattern for the lace cuff, ie knit from that last row to the 1st row. It works too!

Now I am really happy with this pattern & will now cast on for the 2nd sock !

Your baby kimono is sooo cute! I didn't even realize it was sock yarn, I thought you created the striping with different yarns. I appreciate the yarnover link, very helpful and informative. Thank you for including it and a photo of your pretty sock.

Such a gorgeous kimono, that's one lucky little one. I am now hiding in shame as I have 2 friends who have had babies and I am not knitting for them... A.x
