My Assistant Knitter

I taught my daughters knitting but only my younger daughter, Lydia (she's 12) enjoys it. She had knitted a couple of scarfs, a log cabin pillow & many, many squares for blankets for the homeless. She does not like purling & only want to knit, so she always have a square on the needles.
One of the ladies in my knitting group mentioned that a group is collecting knitted jumpers for HIV babies in Africa & gave us a copy of the pattern. I came home & showed the pattern to Lydia & she wanted to give it a try & she knitted this .....
I changed the pattern to knit in the round. It was a fast knit & she did it in 2 days but of course I helped a little with the casting on for the sleeves. Lydia really enjoyed knitting this as it's more interesting than the squares that she had been knitting & she will be doing more. She tried the jumper on her Cabbage Patch doll ...

I am happy that Lydia is enjoying knitting & she is working on her current project - a pair of socks - she has finished 1 sock (I helped with the toe & heel). The only problem is that Lydia only knits during holidays as she is too busy with school work.

Speaking of socks - I think I have knitted close to 40 pairs of socks since I started 2 years ago but these are all that I have left with me ....

Roza's Socks

Fresh off the needles .... a very lovely pattern which is so easy to remember that it feels like knitting in a rib stitch. The yarn is also gorgeous & the lilac & green really goes very well together. After seeing so many instances of pooling with hand painted yarn, I have now accept the pooling & considers it as a unique feature of the yarn - the amazing thing is that the pooling is not the same in each sock & thus adds on to the uniqueness.

Pattern : Roza's Socks, IK Spring 2007

Yarn : Zen Garden, merino/seacell in the Wisteria colorway

Needles : 2.5mm Harmony dpns

The socks feel so comfortable on my feet that I didn't want to take them off despite today's temperature of 33C. Anyway, these socks are for CanAssist patients & now that I have finished the 2 pairs of socks, I can send them off !

Of course, I have cast on another sock ....

Love At First Sight

I am so in love ......... with Yosemite from the Spring Issue of knitty - the pattern is lovely & it's a knitting in the round pattern - there's no way that I can resist this project. I didn't even want to consider going out & buying yarn & immediately went through my stash & found 3 skeins of a yummy blend of merino & cashmere. I didn't even realise that I had them & can't even remember the project that I wanted this yarn for.
Anyway, I was too excited to be bothered & started swatching - I did not get the exact gauge but as the pattern has so much ease (because of the ribbing), it was alright.

So I cast on & here's the beginning of my Yosemite ....

.... I am so in love - with the pattern & the yarn (which is the old cashmere/merino from the Knittery).

There's another pattern which is lovely - the Jayden but I will need to think about it seriously as I will need to buy more yarn & the thought of knitting sleeves ....

A New Addition To My Wardrobe

I cast off the Bonsai Tunic & just love it (please ignore the towel) .... the pattern is lovely & the color too & with all the lace & different stitches, it took me only 3 weeks to complete - it will be a lovely addition to my autumn wardrobe.

Pattern : Interweave Knits Spring 2007
Yarn : Spotlight's Moda Vera bamboo/cotton (7+ balls)
Needles : Addi circular 4.5mm & 4.0mm

I did a lot of modifications on this pattern as I knitted it in the round but I am pleased with it. The only problem that I had is not the pattern but my ugly seaming of the neck band - fortunately, it can't be seen from the front & I will have to grow my hair longer to hide the back of the neck. I tried to unpick the seaming but I did a very good job of hiding the ends that I can't find them. On top of that, the yarn is just too splitty to do any unpicking so I will have to live with it ! Anyway, the tunic fitted me perfectly & here's Lynette wearing it .....

Since I have not decided on my next project (it has to be a vest with no seaming at all), I went through my sock yarn stash & found the yarn that I bought long.....ago to make this ....

.... the Chevron Scarf which every knitter in blogland has knitted one but not me, so I cast on & it's going beautifully - love the colors. The yarn is Mama Llama's self-striping sock yarn in winter colorway - I think it will be the right scarf for winter !

Now I am off to do the swatch for the Mystic Light Shawl KAL which I have joined - if you are interested, it's still open for registration ......

New Projects For A Brand New Month

It's March - time really flies & I thought Christmas was just over but it's almost Easter now! I love Easter as I love hot cross buns & I have been eating them since last week.

For this brand new month, I have cast on ....
... the Pi Shawl from EZ's Knitting Almanac & the yarn is 100% silk from colormart - love the yarn - it's so soft & smooth & the color is gorgeous. Knitting this shawl is really relaxing as it's knit all around with yos & k2tog every 6 rows & it's growing very fast - I have 144 sts now!

Another new cast on .....
..... it's Roza's Socks from IK Spring 2007 & I am using Zen's Garden Sea Yarn (merino & seacell) in Wisteria colorway - the yarn is so soft & lovely to knit with & the pattern is so easy (it didn't look that easy when I was reading it). Love knitting this sock & this pair is going to Can Assist when they are finished.

To add to my sock craze, I have just joined SAM5 & Roza's Socks will be for March. Hooray for sock knitting !
